As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, we pause to reflect on its rich history and customs. This year, the festival falls on June 10th, the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. In celebration of this traditional holiday, our company will be closed on June 10th, allowing everyone to enjoy this special occasion.
The History and Customs of the Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, has been celebrated for over 2,000 years. It commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan, who lived during the Warring States period. Qu Yuan, a loyal minister, drowned himself in the Miluo River to protest against the corruption of the government. To prevent fish from eating his body, people threw rice into the river. This practice evolved into the custom of eating zongzi, glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves.
Another significant tradition is dragon boat racing, symbolizing the attempt to rescue Qu Yuan. Teams paddle their boats in sync, competing to reach the finish line first. These races are now an exciting and vibrant part of the festival, attracting participants and spectators alike.
Company Zongzi-Making Event
To celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, our company organized a zongzi-making event for employees today. This activity not only honors the cultural heritage of the festival but also fosters team spirit and unity among our staff. Employees gathered to learn the art of making zongzi, from preparing the glutinous rice and fillings to wrapping them in bamboo leaves. The event was filled with laughter, learning, and a sense of camaraderie as everyone enjoyed creating these traditional delicacies together.
As we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, we wish all our employees and their families peace and well-being. May this festival bring you good health, happiness, and a deeper appreciation for our shared cultural traditions.
