The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the "Festival of Reunion," is one of China’s most culturally rich traditional holidays, with a history spanning thousands of years. It originated from ancient moon worship and rituals, first recorded in the Zhou Dynasty as the "Autumn Evening Moon Ceremony." By the Tang Dynasty, it had evolved into a formal festival where families gather, admire the full moon, and enjoy mooncakes. The roundness of the moon symbolizes completeness and reunion, making the festival a cherished time for family togetherness and reflection on life’s blessings.
Among the many legends associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival, the most well-known is the story of “Chang’e Flying to the Moon.” Chang’e was the wife of Hou Yi, a legendary archer who saved the world by shooting down nine of the ten suns that scorched the earth. As a reward, the Queen Mother of the West gave Hou Yi an elixir of immortality. However, unwilling to part from his wife, Hou Yi entrusted Chang’e with the elixir. One day, Hou Yi’s greedy apprentice tried to steal it. In a desperate moment, Chang’e drank the elixir herself and floated up to the moon, forever separated from her beloved husband. Heartbroken, Hou Yi would gaze up at the moon each night, longing for a reunion. This touching tale has since made the moon a symbol of longing and reunion, deeply tied to the festival’s traditions.
As these captivating stories became ingrained in cultural memory, the moon’s significance during the Mid-Autumn Festival grew, symbolizing family unity and the expression of longing for loved ones. Even in modern times, where fast-paced lives and physical distance often separate families, this traditional holiday allows people to reconnect and share the joy of the festival. Recognizing this profound cultural value, CHUANGRONG APPAREL has taken the opportunity to show appreciation and care for its employees by distributing Mid-Autumn mooncake gift boxes.
